Pakistan's population expected to double by 2050: Report

LAHORE: Pakistan's latest census report, released by the Bureau of Statistics, highlights the country's status with the highest population growth rate globally, surpassing regional averages.
The report forecasts Pakistan's population to potentially double by 2050 at the current growth rate, marking 2023 as a peak year for population increase since 2017.
Key findings include a diverse demographic landscape with significant numbers of Afghan, Bengali, Chinese, and other nationals residing in Pakistan, alongside a substantial population of Hindus, Christians, Qadianis, and followers of other religions.
Educational challenges are stark, with 25.37 million children aged 5 to 16 out of school nationwide. Disability rates stand at 3.10% of the population, affecting 3.30% of males and 2.88% of females. The literacy rate stands at 61%, with 68% of men and 53% of women being literate.
Regional disparities in education are notable, with Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Balochistan reporting significant numbers of out-of-school children.
