Pakistan's T20 world cup legacy: most finals and semis
LAHORE, June 05: Pakistan continues to shine in the T20 World Cup arena, boasting the distinction of playing the most finals and semi-finals in the tournament's history. With an illustrious track record, the Pakistani team stands as the second most successful T20 World Cup contender, having contested 47 matches and triumphed in 28.
Though the inaugural T20 World Cup eluded them in 2007, Pakistan clinched the trophy in 2009, marking a historic victory. In recent years, the Green Shirts' performance has remained stellar, reaching the semi-finals in 2021 and the finals in 2022, held in UAE.
However, Pakistan's quest for a second title in 2022 was marred by setbacks, notably the injury of star fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi. Despite a valiant effort, the dream of championship glory was dashed in the final against England in Melbourne.
Notably, Pakistan stands alongside Sri Lanka and England as one of the three teams to have reached the T20 World Cup finals thrice. Their consecutive appearances in the finals in 2007, 2009, and 2022 underscore their consistent prowess on the global stage.
