Petition filed in court demands sedition case against Pakistan cricket team
GUJRANWALA, June 12: A controversial petition has been lodged in the court of Additional Sessions Judge, Gujranwala, urging sedition charges against Pakistan's cricket team following losses to the USA and India in the ongoing ICCT Twenty World Cup.
Filed by lawyer Tamilzab Naeem, the writ petition targets captain Babar Azam, team members, as well as the team manager, coach, and chief selector. The petitioner seeks legal action in response to Pakistan's defeat to America by 5 runs in a Super Over, and a loss to India by 6 runs.
The court has promptly responded by directing the Station House Officer (SHO) Arup to furnish a report on the petition by June 21. The outcome of this legal maneuver underscores the heightened emotions surrounding Pakistan's performance in international cricket.
The petition has ignited debate over accountability in sports, amplifying calls for scrutiny and consequences in the wake of disappointing tournament results.
