Petition for Meeting with Imran Khan Excluded from IHC Cause List Again

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has once again excluded the petition for a meeting with former Prime Minister Imran Khan from its cause list, despite a prior court order. The petition, filed by Mashal Yousafzai, concerns the contempt of court over the non-inclusion of the meeting request, and it has added a new twist to ongoing legal matters surrounding Imran Khan’s jail meetings.
Court’s Displeasure Over Exclusion
On Wednesday, the IHC expressed strong dissatisfaction with the exclusion of the petition from the cause list. Justice Sardar Ijaz Ishaq Khan, who is overseeing the case, directed the Deputy Registrar and the Advocate General to submit a written response regarding the matter. The court made it clear that even if the case was not listed on the agenda, the hearing would still proceed as scheduled.
Larger Bench to Hear Consolidated Jail Meeting Cases
Meanwhile, a larger bench of the IHC is scheduled to hear over 20 consolidated cases relating to jail meetings, with the hearing set for Thursday. The three-member bench, led by Acting Chief Justice, also includes Justices Arbab Muhammad Tahir and Azam Khan.
The jail superintendent had previously requested the consolidation of these petitions into one larger bench for more efficient proceedings. This step is expected to streamline the legal process as multiple cases continue to make their way through the courts.
As the legal proceedings continue, the court’s next steps in addressing the issue of Imran Khan’s jail meetings will be closely watched.
