Petrol Prices Jump in Pakistan as Government Announces Hike

Pakistanis will face higher transportation costs as the government raised petrol and diesel prices due to a global surge in oil prices.

The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) announced the increase on Monday, effective from midnight. Petrol prices rose by Rs 4.53 per liter, reaching a new high of Rs 293.94 per liter. Diesel prices saw a steeper increase of Rs 8.14 per liter, settling at Rs 290.38 per liter.

The price hike extends to other petroleum products as well. Kerosene saw a rise of Rs 6.69 per liter, while light diesel oil increased by Rs 6.54 per liter.

The government attributed the price adjustments to rising global oil prices in the past fortnight. The Finance Ministry noted that the petroleum levy on petrol and diesel remains unchanged at Rs 60.60 per liter.

These new prices will be in effect for the next 15 days. The increase is expected to have a widespread impact on transportation costs and inflation rates in the country.
