Police crackdown on kite flying, arrest over 600 individuals in Sialkot
SIALKOT, Mar 26 : Police have launched a major crackdown against the banned practice of kite flying, resulting in the arrest of over 630 individuals. This operation aims to safeguard public safety during the upcoming Basant celebrations.
According to a Sialkot Police spokesperson, a total of 681 cases have been registered against kite makers and sellers. Officers have seized a significant amount of contraband, confiscating 29,967 kites and chemical strings from the apprehended individuals.
Sialkot District Police Officer (DPO) Muhammad Hasan Iqbal has directed Sub-Divisional Police Officers (SDPOs) across the district to intensify their efforts against kite flying. He emphasized the use of drone camera technology to effectively monitor and prevent kite-flying activities, particularly in urban areas.
The DPO highlighted a multi-pronged approach that includes public awareness campaigns. Announcements are being made in mosques and marketplaces, while authorities are leveraging cable TV and social media to educate citizens about the dangers of kite flying.
"Our primary objective is to prevent the loss of innocent lives," DPO Iqbal stated. He acknowledged the unwavering commitment of the Sialkot Police in eradicating this dangerous tradition. However, he stressed the importance of public cooperation in ensuring a safe and enjoyable Basant for all.
