Privilege motion filed in NA against Umar Ayub’s Arrest
ISLAMABAD: A stir erupted in the National Assembly as a privilege motion was filed against the controversial arrest of opposition leader Umar Ayub, demanding accountability from top police officials of Punjab and Islamabad.
The motion, tabled in response to an alleged raid by plainclothes Islamabad and Punjab police at Ayub's residence without legal justification, calls for answers from senior police and Interior Department officials. Ayub asserted that the Speaker of the National Assembly should have been formally notified beforehand, emphasizing that the incident undermines not only his own privilege but that of the entire Parliament.
The move to invoke privileges aims to address concerns over procedural breaches and ensure accountability in law enforcement actions involving parliamentarians.
