PTA and State Bank of Pakistan Deny Rumors of ATM Shutdowns

ISLAMABAD, Aug 25: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has clarified rumors regarding the shutdown of ATMs across the country, labeling the news as completely baseless. According to a PTA spokesperson, there has been no suspension or shutdown of LDI (Long Distance and International) networks, meaning there is no potential impact on the IT or financial sectors, including ATM networks. The operations of expired LDI licenses have not been suspended or ceased.

Similarly, the State Bank of Pakistan has dismissed rumors about ATMs going offline and disruptions to online banking services. In a statement, the central bank warned citizens to beware of false messages circulating on WhatsApp groups and social media, advising against using ATMs and online banking in Pakistan. The public is urged to ignore such unfounded messages and scams and consult their banks for any concerns.

The State Bank further emphasized that, along with other banks and One Link, it is making every effort to safeguard Pakistan's financial infrastructure and digital payment systems. They are ensuring strict implementation of IT security measures. So far, there have been no threats of cyberattacks on the ATM and online banking systems, and the financial services industry is more vigilant and secure than ever before.
