PTI candidate Mian Azhar arrested in Lahore
LAHORE, Jan 28: Former Punjab Governor and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) candidate for National Assembly Constituency NA-129, Mian Azhar, was reportedly arrested by the police. The arrest comes amid PTI's directive for its candidates and workers to actively participate in the election campaign, urging them to take to the streets.
Expressing dismay over his father's arrest, PTI leader Hammad Azhar, in a statement to the media, decried the state of affairs in Pakistan. He remarked, "My 82-year-old father has been arrested. He wanted to lead the rally as per his democratic and constitutional right, but today Pakistan has become a complete fascist state, with zero human rights or rule of law. Nawaz Sharif and his daughter are ruining the country."
It's noteworthy that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf, under the guidance of founder chairman Imran Khan, has directed its candidates and supporters to actively engage in street campaigns for the upcoming elections. Barrister Gohar, in a message, reiterated that peaceful election campaigning is the legal and constitutional right of every citizen. He emphasized that the Election Commission of Pakistan is obliged to provide equal opportunities for PTI to mobilize public support and convey its message effectively.
The chairman further stressed the importance of candidates publicizing their election symbols to enable voters to make informed decisions about whom to vote for in each constituency.
