PTI Chairman Gohar rejects claims of independence, affirms inclusion in Sunni Ittehad Council

ISLAMABAD, April 02: Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Barrister Gauhar, has declared that they are no longer independent candidates but have formally joined the mainstream Sunni Ittehad Council.

Addressing the media in Islamabad on Tuesday, Barrister Gauhar explained that in the 720-page document submitted to the Election Commission, the Sunni Ittehad Council was listed as part of the party's structure for specific seats.

He criticized the National Assembly Speaker's assertion of their independence, deeming it inappropriate, and vowed to address the matter.

The PTI Chairman urged the Election Commission not to delay the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) elections, citing Article 51 which stipulates that no party should be allocated more seats than it has won. He highlighted that while the KP opposition holds 17 seats, they are demanding an additional 30 seats.

While the National Assembly Secretariat acknowledged the support of independent members aligned with PTI, it refused to recognize them as members of the Sunni Unity Council.

Despite this recognition, the independent members were not acknowledged as part of the Sunni Ittehad Council, citing the decision of the Peshawar High Court.
