PTI leader alleges unlawful court practices in Toshakhana case verdict
ISLAMABAD, Feb 02: Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, a prominent central leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI), expressed concerns over what he claims are irregularities in court proceedings leading to recent judgments.
Addressing the media outside Adiala Jail on Friday, Barrister Gohar lamented the alleged denial of opportunities to PTI lawyers during the trial. He highlighted a specific incident where, despite requests, the legal team was not granted a chance to present their case. The barrister further criticized the judge for displaying statements of 342 accused individuals on a mobile phone during the proceedings.
Moreover, Barrister Gohar disputed the accuracy of the judge's depiction of PTI lawyers in the judgment. He argued that PTI lawyers consistently attend court sessions but have been unfairly sidelined. He accused some lawyers, who were not officially appointed, of appearing against PTI, raising questions about the legitimacy of the prosecution team.
Addressing the Toshakhana case, Barrister Gohar defended Bushra Bibi, asserting that she played no role in the matter. He urged a thorough examination of the records, claiming that she neither acquired nor sold any gifts. Accusing the punishment and fine as political retaliation, Barrister Gohar emphasized a perceived motive to sideline Imran Khan. Expressing intent to file an appeal this week, he hopes to overturn the decision and secure the release of those implicated.
The PTI leader characterized the entire legal process as political vengeance, alleging a breach of fundamental principles in the judgments. He underscored that Bushra Bibi had no involvement in the Toshakhana case, insisting that her innocence is evident in a comprehensive review of the records. The overarching sentiment conveyed by Barrister Gohar is that the decisions serve as a message signaling Imran Khan's political sidelining.
