PTI Leader Qureshi Re-arrested Immediately After Bail in "Cipher Case"

RAWALPINDI, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Vice-Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi was re-arrested by Punjab Police moments after his release on bail in the "cipher case."

Earlier today, the Supreme Court granted bail to Qureshi and PTI founder Imran Khan, sparking celebrations among their supporters. Qureshi, addressing the crowd from an armored vehicle, denounced his re-arrest as "cruel" and a punishment for "serving the nation."

The Deputy Commissioner of Rawalpindi issued orders for Qureshi's detention due to his inclusion in separate cases registered on May 9th. Authorities claim further investigation of the former foreign minister is necessary in these cases.

The Supreme Court's bail decision, spanning four pages, was authored by Justice Mansoor Ali Shah. While concurring with the verdict, Justice Athar Minullah penned a separate five-page note. The court emphasized that its observations wouldn't influence the trial and granted the trial court the authority to revoke bail if misused. However, the court found insufficient evidence for further inquiry regarding potential violations of the Official Secrets Act by Qureshi or Khan.

Qureshi's re-arrest raises concerns about political targeting and due process, fueling tensions within Pakistan's already volatile political landscape. His supporters condemn the move as politically motivated, while authorities maintain they are following standard legal procedures. The developing situation has left many wondering how this latest twist will impact the upcoming general elections and the ongoing political turmoil in Pakistan.
