PTI Leader Sheikh Imtiaz Sent on 10-Day Physical Remand Following Clash with Police

LAHORE: In a significant development in the case involving a scuffle with the police during the arrest of the PTI founder, the Anti-Terrorism Court has ordered Member of Provincial Assembly (MPA) Sheikh Imtiaz to be placed in police custody for a 10-day physical remand.

Judge Irfan Haider of the Anti-Terrorism Court announced the reserved decision on the police's request for Sheikh Imtiaz's physical remand.

During the hearing, the police requested a 30-day physical remand for the MPA, stating that they needed to recover sticks, rods, and a mobile phone from him. The investigating officer also mentioned that Sheikh Imtiaz has been named in the supplementary statement of the case.

Sheikh Imtiaz's defense lawyer argued that the police had already informed the High Court on October 14, 2023, that Sheikh Imtiaz was not required for arrest. He further claimed that the MPA was falsely implicated, stating that Sheikh Imtiaz was arrested from Thokar Niaz Baig while making a phone call outside his home, suggesting that this was a case of wrongful arrest and humiliation of a sitting MPA.

Despite the defense's arguments, the court ordered Sheikh Imtiaz to be handed over to the police for a 10-day physical remand. Sheikh Imtiaz was presented in court in connection with a case registered at Race Course police station.
