PTI, Maulana's Alliance can make Govt span short: Fawad Chaudhry
Islamabad , April 30: Former Federal Minister Fawad Chaudhry has warned that if PTI and Maulana Fazlur Rehman join forces, the government's days are numbered, with a maximum lifespan of just 3 to 4 months.
Speaking outside the Anti-Terrorism Court, Chaudhry emphasized that PTI members don't resign; they return after stepping aside. He highlighted the challenges the government is facing, stressing that their story has just begun and they will narrate it when the time comes. Addressing the media, he stated, "Our turn will come, and we will tell our story." He also expressed hopes for smoother proceedings in the court cases scheduled for May 9.
Chaudhry further appealed to all political parties to agree on fundamental reforms, including the need for a revamped Election Commission and empowering the office of the Chief Election Commissioner. He suggested allocating a formal office for the Election Commission and appointing its members as Senate chairpersons for a year, among other proposals aimed at enhancing transparency and democracy.
The former minister urged the Supreme Court to make decisions regarding judges through parliamentary approval, proposing the formation of a conduct commission for annual judicial reviews. He also called for direct elections for mayors and provincial finance awards, an end to extensions, and a limit of two terms or ten years for any prime minister. Chaudhry stressed the importance of intra-party democracy and advocated for the abolition of the victimization process, suggesting that the Prosecutor General be appointed similar to a Supreme Court judge.
Chaudhry concluded by inviting further additions to his proposed reforms but urged immediate action on at least initiating discussions on the outlined suggestions.
