PTI-PML-N clash mars new members' oath-taking in KPK Assembly

PESHAWAR, Feb 28: In the inaugural session of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Provincial Assembly, chaos ensued as newly elected members took oath amidst a tumultuous environment on Wednesday. The session, chaired by Speaker Mushtaq Ghani, began with tributes to martyrs and prayers for those who sacrificed in the war against terrorism.

However, the solemnity of the occasion was marred by overcrowding, with more than 1800 visitors flooding into an assembly hall with a capacity of only 300. PTI supporters attempted to force their way into the hall, resulting in a chaotic scene.

Amidst the commotion, newly elected PML-N member Sobia Shahid became embroiled in controversy. PTI workers clashed with Sobia, hurling papers and objects at her. In a symbolic gesture, sobia defiantly waved the loot she had been thrown, even placing it on the Chief Minister's chair.

However, assembly staff swiftly intervened, removing the items and admonishing sobia. Despite attempts by Speaker Mushtaq Ghani to restore order, noise and slogans continued to echo through the assembly hall.

The tumultuous scenes underscored the tensions and rivalries that characterize Pakistani politics, hinting at the challenges that lie ahead for the newly elected provincial government.
