PTI to Challenge Ad-Hoc Judges Appointment in Supreme Judicial Council
Islamabad: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has announced plans to approach the Supreme Judicial Council in opposition to the decision to appoint ad-hoc judges to the Supreme Court.
In a media briefing following a joint parliamentary party meeting with the Sunni Ittehad Council in Islamabad, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar asserted that the PTI represents 70% of Pakistanis. He warned that any attempt to ban PTI would signal the downfall of the current government.
Barrister Gohar condemned the appointment of four ad-hoc judges to the Supreme Court, labeling the move as malicious. He emphasized that such appointments jeopardize judicial independence and urged that the matter be referred to the Supreme Judicial Council to avoid controversy.
Leader of Opposition in the National Assembly, Umar Ayub, criticized recent actions against PTI members, including the re-arrest of Bushra Bibi on what he claims are false charges. Ayub accused Chief Justice Qazi Faiz Isa of attempting to fill the judiciary with like-minded judges and denounced talks of banning PTI. He highlighted PTI's popularity, with 30 million votes in the last election, and announced plans for nationwide rallies.
Ayub also reported police raids on the homes of PTI members Jamshed Dasti and Shahryar Afridi, denouncing the government's lawlessness. He stated that PTI would hold major rallies in Islamabad and Swabi.
Leader of Opposition in the Senate, Shibli Faraz, condemned the ruling party’s reaction to a recent Supreme Court decision and criticized moves to ban PTI as cowardly. Faraz called for the resignation of the Chief Election Commissioner and his four members, accusing the Election Commission of partisanship and condemning the alleged kidnapping of PTI MNAs.
Faraz highlighted the ongoing issues faced by PTI founder Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi, calling on the government to respect the constitution and the law.
Tehreek-e-Insaf leader Zartaj Gul dismissed the notion of banning PTI as a madman's dream, asserting PTI's enduring presence and demanding an apology to Imran Khan from the government.
Former Speaker National Assembly Asad Qaiser accused the government of violating basic human rights and stated that the country has become unconstitutional. Qaiser demanded the government follow the constitution and warned of potential conflict if necessary. He also criticized the recent hike in petrol prices, pledging PTI’s support for the people and emphasizing the party’s commitment to real freedom.
Earlier, PTI and Sunni Ittehad Council leaders held a consultative meeting to review the implementation of the Supreme Court's decision on specific seats.
