PTI's Raja Salman advocates legal approach to seat allocation amid tensions
ISLAMABAD, Feb 28: Salman Akram Raja, a central leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), underscored the importance of adhering to legal provisions regarding seat allocation, amidst ongoing political tensions. Raja highlighted that the law does not mandate the allocation of specific seats to other parties, which, if followed, could have averted the current conflict.
Speaking with local TV channel, Raja pointed out that while the constitution clearly outlines the timeline for convening the National Assembly after elections, it also lacks a provision for mandatory seat-sharing among parties. He stressed that if seats were allocated in proportion to each party's representation, as per legal stipulations, it could have prevented the current impasse.
Raja emphasized the constitutional obligation for the President to ensure the timely completion of the National Assembly formation. He stated that the President's directive to the Election Commission to expedite the process and allocate specific seats to all parties within three days aligns with constitutional mandates.
Refuting claims that PTI is obstructing government formation, Raja maintained that PTI's stance is grounded in legal clarity and constitutional principles. He criticized opposition parties for politicizing the issue and highlighted PTI's commitment to abiding by constitutional provisions.
Raja's remarks come amidst a broader political standoff, with PTI facing accusations of hindering the government formation process. However, Raja reiterated PTI's adherence to legal norms and urged all parties to prioritize constitutional obligations in resolving the current deadlock.
