Punjab announces new women's prisons in Faisalabad, Rawalpindi
LAHORE, May 22: Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz has directed for a comprehensive strategy to overhaul the prison system in the province. A pivotal meeting addressing prison reforms, chaired by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, convened to deliberate on critical measures to enhance the correctional facilities across Punjab on Wednesday.
During the session, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz spearheaded discussions that led to the approval of plans to establish women's prisons in Faisalabad and Rawalpindi. Furthermore, directives were issued to establish new correctional facilities outside urban centers, alongside approving the refurbishment project for Bakshi Khanas and lock-ups across Punjab.
The meeting also highlighted concerns regarding potential external affiliations of incarcerated criminals and emphasized the imperative of bolstering cybersecurity measures within prison premises to prevent any illicit connections.
