Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif to Launch Solar Panel Distribution Scheme on Independence Day
LAHORE: In a significant move towards sustainable energy, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has announced the launch of a solar panel distribution scheme, set to commence on August 14, Independence Day. This initiative aims to alleviate electricity costs for Punjab residents by providing solar panels to households based on their electricity consumption.
Under this scheme, households using up to 200 units of electricity per month will receive free solar panels. Those consuming between 200 and 500 units will benefit from a substantial subsidy, paying only 10 percent of the cost while the Punjab government covers the remaining 90 percent. The payment for these panels will be interest-free and spread over five years, with banks facilitating the distribution.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif emphasized the scheme's potential to reduce electricity bills by 40 percent, reinforcing her commitment to offering relief amid challenging circumstances. "My mission is to give relief to the people," she stated. "There are difficult situations, but we are with the people and will remain so."
This ambitious initiative is expected to make a significant impact on the energy landscape of Punjab, promoting renewable energy use and providing financial relief to its citizens.
