Punjab extends school timings until January 31 due to severe cold
Lahore, Jan 21: In response to the intensified cold wave, the Punjab government has announced that schools will open at 9 AM until January 31. The School Education Department of Punjab has issued a notification regarding the revised school timings. As per the details, the School Education Department has extended the temporary alternate schedule for schools until 9 AM on January 31.
Considering the severity of the weather, the School Education Department has further expanded the alternate schedule. Previously, temporary alternate timings were implemented in schools until January 19. The department has now extended this measure to ensure the safety of students during the ongoing cold spell. Moreover, the government has also relaxed the uniform policy for students in both public and private schools for the months of January and February. District Education Authorities have been instructed through issued correspondences that students can attend school wearing any warm clothing, such as sweaters, coats, jackets, caps, socks, and boots.
The communication emphasized that school heads, both in public and private schools, should ensure strict compliance with these directives. On another note, while winter vacations have concluded in public primary schools across Punjab, including Lahore, the attendance of students has remained low despite schools reopening. However, it is expected that attendance will improve from Monday onwards, being the last day of the week. It is important to note that due to the intensifying cold conditions, the provincial government had earlier extended winter vacations for students of Class I until January 19.
