Punjab govt identifies state land for affordable housing scheme

LAHORE, April 24: The government of Punjab has identified state land in five cities across Punjab for a housing scheme aimed at providing affordable homes to low-income homeless people.

A special meeting chaired by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif was convened where details of the "Apni Chhat Apna Ghar" project were discussed. The meeting was briefed on the construction of model houses and the proposed monthly installment plans.

In-principle approval was granted for the housing project to be developed on 519 kanals of land in five major cities, including Lahore. The government has also decided to collaborate with the Pakistan Council for Architects and Town Planners to design the housing units.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif instructed authorities to launch the "Apni Chhat... Apna Ghar" project in proximity to the cities. She emphasized the importance of constructing quality houses at a minimum cost to make them accessible to the target population.

The meeting was attended by Senior Provincial Minister Maryam Aurangzeb, Senator Pervaiz Rasheed, Minister for Information and Culture Zahid Bukhari, MPA Sania Ashiq, Chief Secretary, SMBR, Chairman P&D, Secretary Housing, Secretary Finance, Commissioner Lahore, and other senior officials.
