Punjab Schools Mandate 'Zero Period' to Combat Smog and Dengue

LAHORE, May 14: The School Education Department Punjab has enforced the mandatory inclusion of a 'zero period' in all public and private educational institutions to tackle the dual threats of smog and dengue.

According to circular notification to concerned authorities, Principals failing to comply with the directive face repercussions, as 100% activity documentation is required. Alongside, comprehensive cleanliness measures, including playgrounds, toilets, and water tanks, are mandated. Classroom awareness campaigns on smog and dengue are also underway, with strict adherence to cleanliness guidelines. Meanwhile, amidst rising temperatures, demands for reduced school hours emerge from government teachers, citing health concerns for students. The department is actively assessing the heat severity across districts, consulting CEOs via Zoom meetings to determine appropriate adjustments to school timings.
