Punjab to establish Provincial Enforcement Authority against various offenses
LAHORE: Chief Minister of Punjab, Maryam Nawaz, has approved the establishment of a Provincial Enforcement Authority in Punjab and directed immediate legislative action to initiate the creation of this authority, which includes amendments to 11 laws, rules, and ordinances.
During a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, a comprehensive briefing was provided regarding the formation of the provincial enforcement authority at the district and tehsil levels.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has set a target to activate the enforcement authorities across the province within the next six months. Under this initiative, enforcement bodies will be established in every district and tehsil of Punjab.
The Provincial Enforcement Authority will be headed by the Chief Secretary, with a Director General (DG) also to be appointed. At the district level, the authority will be led by a Deputy Commissioner, while an Assistant Commissioner (AC) will head the Tehsil Enforcement Authority.
At the tehsil level, police stations and special forces will be established under the supervision of the Tehsil Enforcement Unit. This unit will comprise unit in-charges, investigation officers, enforcement officers, and constables.
The Tehsil Enforcement Unit will have the authority not only to enforce the law but also to register cases, conduct investigations, and make arrests. Additionally, offices for monitoring will be set up for both the Provincial and District Enforcement Authorities.
The Provincial Enforcement Authorities will be empowered to take action against various offenses, including price control, illegal occupation of government lands, encroachments, and hoarding.
This move is aimed at enhancing law enforcement, ensuring compliance with regulations, and safeguarding public and government interests across Punjab.
