Punjab to establish special planning authority to curb illegal housing societies
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has decided to establish the Punjab Special Planning Authority (PSPA) to tackle illegal housing societies.
The chief minister chaired a meeting where it was also agreed that that Special Planning Committees would also be established at the district level. The relevant Deputy Commissioner will head these committees, with representatives from service-providing organizations like WAPDA, Sui Gas, WASA, and others.
Moreover, zoning for commercial, residential, and agricultural lands will be carried out. The committees will handle district land use planning and zoning, while these will be reviewed every four years.
Additionally, a violation tracking mechanism will be implemented to prevent the illegal use of land, the meeting was briefed.
The participants were told that the Digital District Wall will help identify land misuse, and it will also pace up the process of applications.
CM Maryam Nawaz has ordered the immediate resolution of pending housing sector applications, emphasizing that town planning is crucial for a stable future.
She lamented that unregulated and illegal housing societies are emerging in urban areas due to poor strategy.
The meeting also reviewed a proposal for separate, uniform colors and designs for commercial and residential areas.
A progress report was also presented on the 414 schemes under phase one of the Lahore Development Plan. The Chief Minister has sought the reports on daily basis to review the progress.
