Punjab's Agriculture Sector Set for Transformation with New Initiatives

Lahore: Punjab's agricultural landscape is on the brink of a major transformation as multiple new initiatives reach their final stages. Key projects include the establishment of Model Agri Malls, the restoration of canoes, and the promotion of various crops to boost both production and export.

Punjab Agriculture Secretary Iftikhar Ali Sahu announced the finalization of plans for the Model Agri Malls, designed to enhance the agricultural infrastructure in the province. Additionally, a comprehensive plan for the restoration of canoes has been completed, signaling a commitment to preserving traditional methods and improving waterways.

Efforts to boost soybean and sesame cultivation are also underway. Sahu highlighted that the new program aims to increase the production of these crops significantly. "The promotion of soybeans and canola is aimed at reducing the import bill," he said, emphasizing the financial benefits of local production. The objective of increasing sesame production, on the other hand, is to ensure a rise in exports and foreign exchange earnings.

In a move to maintain high standards, Sahu stressed the importance of monitoring the manufacturing process of super seeders. He directed the technical team to oversee quality control, with regular reports to be obtained through Nespak. "Quality should be ensured during the manufacture and delivery of the machinery as per the given standard," Sahu added.

These initiatives reflect a strategic approach to modernize Punjab's agriculture sector, aiming for self-sufficiency and increased export potential.
