Railway police nab copper thief red-handed on Multan express

MULTAN, April 25: Railway police apprehended a thief in the act of stealing copper wires from the air-conditioned coach of the Multan Express traveling from Faisalabad to Karachi. The accused was caught red-handed with the stolen wires and tools by alert carriage staff.

According to detail, given the absence of handcuffs, the Railway Transport and Logistics (RTL) staff improvised and used a rope to secure the hands of the arrested individual.

In a related incident highlighting the vigilance of the railway staff, a carriage cleaner was also caught red-handed, attempting to pilfer metal dustbins and other materials from a Rawalpindi rail car.

Former DIG Operations, Shahzad Akbar, had issued stringent directives to all Superintendents of Police (SPs) four years ago, emphasizing the need to curb the theft of copper wires from railway coaches.

CEO Railway, Aamir Baloch, has pledged to intensify monitoring to deter material theft and has also assured that action will be taken against any police personnel found negligent in their duties.
