Rawalpindi Commissioner Transferred, Office Sealed After Rigging Allegations

RAWALPINDI, Feb 18: The Commissioner's office in Rawalpindi was thrown into turmoil as Liaquat Ali Chatta, the Commissioner of Rawalpindi, was transferred amidst allegations of rigging in 13 National Assembly seats of Rawalpindi Division during the February 8 elections.
According to media reports, Liaquat Chatta, accused of electoral malpractice, has been instructed to report immediately to the Services and General Administration Department. In his place, DGRDA Saif Anwar Jappa has been appointed as the Acting Commissioner of Rawalpindi.
The controversy escalated further as the Rawalpindi Commissioner's office was sealed following the rigging allegations by Liaquat Ali Chatta. Police surrounded the premises, barring entry to anyone.
Chatta's resignation came on the heels of his admission of responsibility for election rigging across the division. In a press conference, he announced his resignation, expressing remorse for his actions and surrendering himself to the police for his involvement in the electoral fraud. His resignation was promptly forwarded to the Chief Minister, Governor of Punjab, and Chief Secretary Punjab.
Chatta confessed to using fake seals to manipulate election results, turning the defeat of certain candidates into victories. He acknowledged succumbing to pressure to engage in illegal activities and emphasized the need for accountability within the bureaucracy.
In a startling revelation, Chatta disclosed an attempted suicide following morning prayers, underscoring the gravity of the situation. His resignation has sent shockwaves through the political landscape, highlighting the urgent need for electoral reform and accountability measures.
