Secretary ECP Umar Hameed Resigns Due to Health Issues

ISLAMABAD, Umar Hameed, Secretary of the Election Commission of Pakistan, has tendered his resignation from the esteemed position. Media reports confirm that Hameed's departure is attributed to health concerns that have rendered him unable to continue his duties effectively.

Citing his current health condition, Hameed expressed the necessity to step down from his role, emphasizing that his physical well-being does not permit him to fulfill his professional obligations. Sources reveal that after a brief hospitalization, Hameed is currently undergoing treatment at home, prompting his decision to resign.

While Hameed has formally submitted his resignation to Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja, it has not been accepted at this time. The Chief Election Commissioner reportedly acknowledged Hameed's health-related concerns but has yet to make a decision on the resignation.

Notably, Umar Hameed Khan's initial two-year tenure as the Secretary of the Election Commission of Pakistan concluded in July of the previous year. However, owing to the impending general elections in the country, Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja had opted to extend Hameed's tenure by an additional year. The sudden resignation comes at a critical juncture, just ahead of the elections, adding an element of uncertainty to the Election Commission's leadership.
