Senate Committee Demands Full Disclosure of IPP Contracts and Records Since 1992

Islamabad: The Senate Standing Committee has requested the original documents related to agreements with Independent Power Producers (IPPs) dating back to 1992.

The Chairman of the Senate Committee has directed the Ministry of Energy to provide comprehensive records of all IPP contracts. The committee has asked for a comparison of IPP rates with those of power plants in other developing countries and details on the rates at which electricity is purchased from IPPs in these countries.

Additionally, the committee has requested information on IPPs that have been shut down due to technical faults over the past 20 years, along with details about IPP investors and owners.

The committee's instructions include providing records of capacity payments made to IPPs since 1992, as well as a detailed account of wind power plant agreements and rates from the past six years. They have also called for records of any modifications to IPP agreements and a comprehensive review of power policies since 1992.

Furthermore, the committee seeks a report on the electricity production capacity added by IPPs and a complete record of national electricity demand and supply. Specific records are also requested for IPPs using fuel oil and gas with capacities over 50 megawatts.
