Silence more important in current political situation: Sheikh Rashid
Rawalpindi, April 4: The leader of Awami Muslim League, Sheikh Rashid, has emphasized the significance of silence amidst ongoing legal matters, stating, "I am resting, rest is the best, my silence is more important in the current situation." Speaking to the media during his appearance at the District Court Islamabad, Rashid emphasized the sensitivity of the issues at hand, suggesting that matters such as letters written to judges should be left for judicial discussion.
Regarding his recent defeat in the elections, Rashid expressed acceptance of the results, urging others to focus on pertinent issues like rigging instead. He further remarked that he remains unaware of current governmental activities due to his avoidance of television and newspapers.
Earlier, the District and Sessions Courts of Islamabad addressed a plea for the acquittal of Sheikh Rashid, founder of PTI Shah Mahmood Qureshi, and other accused individuals in cases related to the Haqiji Azadi March. Former federal minister Sheikh Rashid, along with co-accused Ali Nawaz Awan and Sadaqat Abbasi, appeared before the court.
During the proceedings, PTI lawyers, including Sardar Busy Advocate, Amna Ali, Rizwan Akhtar Awan, and Mirza Asim Advocate, presented arguments in favor of the acquittal petition filed in February of the previous year. The court, presided over by Judicial Magistrate Malik Imran, reserved its decision on the plea, scheduling further hearings for June 6.
