Sindh High Court has issued a notice to the federal government in response to a petition challenging the PECA law

The Sindh High Court (SHC) has issued a notice to the federal government in response to a petition challenging the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA), on Monday.
The hearing was led by SHC Chief Justice Shafi Siddiqui, who questioned the petitioner’s lawyer about the concerns with the PECA law. “What exactly is wrong with this law?” the Chief Justice asked. The court also raised the point, “Shouldn’t there be consequences for spreading false information?”
Justice Siddiqui went on to explain that not all decisions are made by courts, as some fall within the jurisdiction of relevant authorities. “You also have the right to challenge the decisions made by these authorities,” he added.
The Chief Justice emphasized that if the case involves fundamental rights, it should be reviewed by a constitutional bench for further consideration.
After hearing the arguments, the SHC issued a notice to the federal government, instructing it to respond to the petition within two weeks. This marks a significant step in the ongoing legal debate surrounding the PECA law. https://arynews.tv/shc-issues-notice-to-federal-govt-on-petition-against-peca-law/
