Tax consultancy unit, new police stations approved for narcotics control in Punjab

LAHORE, Mar 27: Government of Punjab has approved the establishment of three new police stations and a dedicated tax consultancy unit. This decision came to light following a comprehensive review meeting held by the Excise Taxation and Narcotics Control Department, presided over by Chief Minister Punjab, Maryam Nawaz.

During the meeting, Chief Minister Nawaz emphasized the importance of expanding the tax net to include all eligible individuals and called for a rationalization of house taxes. The agenda also included the green light for the creation of a new department specifically focused on anti-narcotics initiatives.

Highlighting the strategic measures, it was revealed that 13 excise check posts will be strategically placed across the province to curb the smuggling of goods and illicit substances. Additionally, plans are underway to conduct an assessment on the disparity in taxes based on rental value versus DC rates.

With a focus on rehabilitation efforts, the meeting discussed the potential benefits to the pharmaceutical sector amounting to approximately Rs 900 million. Moreover, the Excise Department aims to enhance service delivery through initiatives such as the 'Dastak' program and the 'Knock' program, the latter being designed to facilitate tax recovery efforts.

A significant boost in tax collection, to the tune of 12.5%, was attributed to the implementation of the e-title document for e-registration of vehicles. Furthermore, collaborative efforts with the Safe City Authority were underscored for efficient challan recovery processes.

The decision to establish these new police stations and a specialized tax consultancy unit reflects the government's unwavering commitment to combatting narcotics proliferation and enhancing revenue generation strategies in Punjab.
