Telecom companies agree to block mobile SIMs of over 56,000 non-filers in Pakistan
ISLAMABAD, May 07: The Telecom Companies in Pakistan have reached on an agreement to block the mobile SIM cards of more than 56,000 individuals who have failed to file their tax returns. This decision came after a meeting between the Chairman of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), Malik Amjad Zubair Towana, and representatives from the telecom industry.
According to media report, during the meeting, Chairman Towana received assurances from telecom officials that the SIM cards of these non-filers would be blocked within the span of one to one and a half weeks. Emphasizing the importance of tax compliance, Chairman Towana reiterated the FBR's commitment to ensuring that individuals fulfill their tax obligations.
The telecom companies affirmed their adherence to the laws of the country and pledged to send notifications to non-filers, urging them to submit their income tax returns. Upon clearance from the FBR, SIM cards of non-filers who comply with tax regulations by submitting their returns will be restored.
This move underscores the government's efforts to bolster tax compliance and revenue collection in Pakistan, as well as promoting a culture of fiscal responsibility among citizens.
