Three children die after hospital injections in Khanewal

KHANEWAL, June 13: Three children receiving treatment in the children's ward of the District Headquarters Hospital in Khanewal died immediately after being administered injections. The injections caused a fatal reaction, leading to the deaths of six-month-old Dua Fatima, one-and-a-half-year-old Ayan, and three-year-old Ramadan.
Distraught relatives of the deceased protested outside the pediatric ward, demanding accountability for the tragic loss of their loved ones.
In response to the incident, District Administration Officers, Police, and Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Ali Bukhari rushed to the hospital late at night. They gathered information from CEO Health and Medical Superintendent Dr. Amara, who stated that the fatal injections of Ceftraxone had been approved by government laboratories.
Following the deaths, the Deputy Commissioner ordered the immediate seizure of all Ceftraxone stocks in the district. He also mandated a thorough and transparent investigation to identify those responsible. Furthermore, the use of Ceftraxone has been halted in all government hospitals within the district, including DHQ Hospital.
The Deputy Commissioner met with the parents of the other children undergoing treatment in the ward and instructed the administration to administer an alternative injection recommended by the consultant to ensure their safety.
