Bilawal Bhutto Requests Live Broadcast of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Judicial Killing Case
Islamabad: Chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, has filed a petition in the Supreme Court seeking a live broadcast of the hearing related to the judicial killing of his grandfather, Zulfikar Ali Bhutto.
The petition, filed by Bilawal's lawyer Farooq H. Naik, cites the presidential reference filed by former President Asif Ali Zardari in April 2011 as the basis for the request. The petition argues that live broadcasting will ensure transparency and allow the public to witness the proceedings firsthand.
This development comes ahead of tomorrow's hearing, where a 9-member larger bench led by Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faiz Isa will hear the case. The petition for live broadcast garnered support from senior PPP leader Faisal Karim Kundi, who echoed the need for public access to the proceedings.
The judicial killing of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto remains a controversial event in Pakistan's history. The PPP has long maintained that Bhutto's execution was politically motivated and constituted a "judicial murder." The live broadcast of the hearing, if approved, could shed light on this sensitive issue and hold historical significance.
