Caretaker Govt Axes 29 Billion from Parliamentarians' Development Funds
Islamabad, The caretaker government plans to trim a substantial 29 billion from the budget earmarked for parliamentarians' development schemes (SDGs) reportedly have been unveiled. The decision, aimed at aligning with IMF objectives and allaying concerns within political circles, involves withholding funds from the allocated 90 billion 12 crores, of which 61 billion 28 crores have already been disbursed.
According to government sources , the caretaker government is contemplating a ban on further fund releases for parliamentarians' schemes, signaling a potential halt to additional financial allocations in the current fiscal year. Sources reveal that this move serves a dual purpose – meeting IMF expenditure reduction targets while addressing apprehensions about parliamentary expenses during an election year.
Government insiders suggest a proposal to suspend funds for parliamentarians' schemes for the remainder of the 2023-24 financial year. Notably, there is no indication of a ban on expenditures from previously released funds. This strategic maneuver is poised to navigate fiscal challenges while maintaining political equilibrium in the lead-up to the elections.
