Gas Prices Likely to Increase Further in Pakistan, Says OGRA Chairman

Lahore: Residents of Pakistan should brace themselves for even higher gas prices, according to a recent statement made by Chairman of the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA), Masroor Khan.

Speaking after a public hearing on the proposed increase in gas tariffs, Khan revealed that Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) has requested an additional 131% hike, on top of the price increase already implemented on November 1st.

While emphasizing that the final decision rests with the government, Khan acknowledged the possibility of higher gas prices, citing global trends and the need to import expensive Liquefied Natural Gas (RLNG) to meet domestic demand.

"Gas is expensive all over the world and it is likely to be more expensive here," Khan stated. He urged consumers to adopt gas-saving practices, citing his own success in reducing his household gas bill.

Khan further highlighted the depletion of Pakistan's gas reserves, necessitating the import of costly RLNG. He assured the public that OGRA prioritizes consumer interests and will consider all perspectives before submitting recommendations to the government.

The upcoming hearing in Peshawar will provide a further platform for stakeholders to voice their concerns before the final decision is made.
