Violence spoils polling across multiple national assembly constituencies
RAWALPINDI, Feb 08: Rawalpindi witnessed several incidents of conflict and violence during polling in various National Assembly constituencies, highlighting the tense atmosphere surrounding the electoral process.
At Government Boys High School Mohra in Constituency NA-54 Taxila PP-12, a brawl erupted between workers aligned with IPP's Sarwar Khan and PTI-backed Saad Ali group, resulting in four injuries outside the polling station. A significant police presence was deployed to quell the situation.
In NA-53 Pind Jhatla, a scuffle broke out among women voters at a polling station, reportedly sparked by an altercation over queue management. Prompt intervention by police and election staff helped resolve the dispute and restore order.
In NA-49 Attock, clashes between PML-N and PTI workers forced the temporary suspension of voting at two polling stations, including Government Boys High School Bhangi Hazro and UC Office Northopa Attock.
Further unrest unfolded in Multan, where political activists clashed and exchanged heated slogans over alleged tampering with vote slips at a polling station in Karim Town, NA Constituency 149. Police were called to maintain peace and order amid escalating tensions.
These incidents underscore the challenges of ensuring a peaceful and fair electoral process, emphasizing the need for heightened security measures to safeguard voters' rights and maintain law and order.
