Women's voting banned in Swabi village
SWABI, Feb 08: In the village of Adina in Swabi, women were barred from voting following a decision by local residents, with the polling station fully staffed but devoid of any female voters. Swabi Police have finalized a comprehensive security plan to ensure the peaceful conduct of the 2024 general elections.
A contingent of 4,000 police officers and officials has been deployed across 763 polling stations throughout the district. Among these, 350 are classified as normal polling stations, while 331 are deemed sensitive and 80 are labeled highly sensitive. Enhanced security measures include the deployment of Quick Response Force (QRF) and Rapid Response Riot Force (RRRF) squads patrolling in 166 mobile vehicles.
Additionally, approximately 65 Willis blockades have been erected on internal and external routes, particularly those deemed sensitive. Closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras will monitor activity at sensitive polling stations to ensure heightened vigilance.
To maintain peace and quell any potential threats, security forces are conducting search and strike operations district-wide. Furthermore, officers and officials from various units have been mobilized to provide foolproof security for both mail and per mail polling stations.
Today, amidst heightened security measures, 12.79 million registered voters are set to cast their ballots in 855 constituencies across the national and provincial assemblies, choosing from among 17,758 candidates. However, polling in four constituencies, including one national assembly and three provincial assembly seats, has been postponed due to the tragic deaths of 14,900 election workers.
A workforce of 90,675 polling station staff and 266,398 polling booths have been established nationwide to facilitate the electoral process.
